Battlegroup Idea
So, had a discussion with Uriel (mostly) in reference to recent ideas for Merrill's development, and wished to discuss some ideas that popped up from communication here:
In M.870-871, after Merrill's interim on Terra, Hektor moves him into a battlegroup with the XIII Legion and XIX for campaign work, as well as developing his skills partnered with Uriel and the XIX, believing this to be a good fit.
For the most part this works, as the three Legions have an excellent symbiotic relationship, the XX become excellent at obtaining socio-political information for the XX to exploit, the XX's scouting and reconnaissance gains information for the main bodies of both other Legions to exploit as they see fit, and the wars are quick and painless for the astartes, while messy and expensive for their opponents.
In M.872, Camaxtli is found, brought back to Terra, and reunited with his Legion.
Initially this works quite well, however the relationships between the Primarchs quickly deteriorates. Camaxtli and Merrill are both quick to anger, and while Merrill is content with making snide comments and subtle insults, Camaxtli will openly insult his brother. Or, at least in Merrill's views he does. Uriel largely attempts to play diplomat, though he does agree with Merrill about their brother's attitude problems. Their campaign continues on, with the occasional message of Hektor berating all parties and attempting to force them to get along.
At some point, Cam makes an insult towards Merrill that demands answering more than a snide comment. I'm thinking he calls him coward or something similar. Weapons are drawn, and Uriel barely manages to contain the situation and make them back off of each other. Regardless, both Primarchs stop communicating at that point and go their separate ways, both sides hating the other.
The campaign closes at M.875, and the battlegroup is broken up.
Thoughts?

Re: Battlegroup Idea
Quick personal thought:
At some point after this, Merrill and Tiran form a separate battlegroup.
We can also have him and Aubrey work together at some point.

Re: Battlegroup Idea
You lost me with the Legion numbers. Especially this bit:

As far as the Eyes of the Emperor go, I would rather they didn't do too many long-term team-ups - it burns their "secretive and reclusive" theme - but they could do cameos.

Fixed. Also, the wiki slates XIX as both the Eyes and the Teeth. I meant the Crimson Teeth fully.Lumey wrote:You lost me with the Legion numbers. The Eyes have been the XIX forever. LCK seems to have made an error somewhere.

Re: Battlegroup Idea
Yeah, that'll have to be updated on the page.
Regardless, I think we should be having a few more battlegroups out there for the various factions. It's an easy explanation for certain things we have going, as well as great areas to expand on characterisation. And from what I've been able to tell from the HH novels so far, they were more the norm than the exception for the majority of the Crusade.

Re: Battlegroup Idea
The Legions were definitely split up into Crusade Fleets, though I'm not sure that multi-Legion operations were the norm. Basically, if you want to get into Crusade Fleets, it requires developing more characters rather than continuing to focus on the Primarchs.

Re: Battlegroup Idea
There were plenty of examples out there. Raven Guard, Iron Hands, and I forget who else did several campaigns together.
Alphas, Ultras, and Fists did as well. There was even one that forced the Space Puppies and Thousand Sons together for a while.

Fixed.
There are battle groups, but additional characters are definitely necessary.

Hard to tell because you don't log into 1d4chan, but it looks like you haven't made any edits to the wiki since June. Are you sure you fixed the problem?
